The Defendants were alleged to have defrauded a total number of 676,675 Nigerian job seekers to the tune of the said sum representing N1,000 per applicant through e-payment for their online recruitment exercise into the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), on March 17, 2014 through an exercise which was carried out in a negligent manner and led to the death of about 20 applicants in various recruitment centers across the country.

The trial judge, while delivering judgment, held that the prosecution had failed to establish the allegations of procurement fraud and abuse of office against the defendants. The judge, therefore, discharged and acquitted the first, third and fourth defendants on all charges preferred against them. The court, however, convicted the second defendant on one of the counts of the charges but adjourned sentencing.
